Apart from all those fancy barbecues, plants and garden tools, you could consider selling landscape supplies like compost, turf and aggregates online via your webshop. Competition from the big online players is a lot smaller in this segment and consumers understand you’re the first stopping point if they require any new supplies. So what are you waiting for?
The starting point is, of course, a proper webshop and online payment facility. A benefit of products, like compost, is that consumers won’t expect too much visual information. Nowadays, selling a barbecue requires a video, 360-view of the product and a lot more. Since compost and aggregates are totally not sexy, a few product photos should do the job. Be sure to have a good product description as well.
During the order process you have to make it as convenient as possible to your customers:
- Everyone knows the size of their border, but how much soil do you need to fill it up? Calculate the volume required with an easy calculator on your product pages.
- Buying more is paying less. Be sure to have a list of prices, it will make customers eager to buy a little bit more to pay less per m3.
- Offer click & collect and let them select the pickup date. Customers want to be in control. Also, be sure they can pick it up near the store entrance.
- Are you offering deliveries? Don’t overcharge them and again, let your customers select the delivery date or even the time slot.
A lot of customers who are looking for landscaping supplies are doing major improvements on their garden. They won’t be too interested in buying plants in this stage, but you can add a voucher to their order to encourage them to come back at a later stage!
