Social media is present whatever you’re doing nowadays and garden retailers do have a growing interest in it, looking at the huge attendance of the seminars given by MD of Garden Connect Edwin Meijer at GLEE last weekend.
“Garden centres should start with Facebook, the sooner the better.” explains Edwin in his presentation. “About 50% of the Brits are on Facebook so your garden centre can’t miss this channel to interact with your customers. Teens are already moving away from Facebook, since it is a social network in which their parents have an account isn’t interesting to them, but for the time being it’s by far the best place to be.”
During his presentation Pinterest was presented as the best social network, but it's too small to adopt widely yet: “Garden retailing is about inspiration. And inspiration is what women are looking for on Pinterest so it’s the network you should love!”.
