We have released our newest whitepaper “E-commerce in the garden industry”, which is packed with tips and tricks for garden centre and nurseries. With online accounting for 9.4% of the UK garden market, it’s not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’ when it comes to investing in your online presence. But where do you start? Garden Connect gives you 24 pages of tips, tricks and best practices. 

The whitepaper covers five important topics, explains Edwin Meijer, MD of Garden Connect. “We focus on e-commerce but it’s not only about selling online. In the first chapter, we analyse how UK customers are shopping nowadays, and how that affects every garden centre, not just the ones selling online. The second chapter is about how customers use their mobile phone during their shopping journey, and the way it influences the purchases they make. It’s fascinating to learn how shopping changed the last few of years.”

How To Grow Online?

Garden centres who already have a webshop will be interested in the third part of the whitepaper: How To Grow Online? Edwin continued: “Setting up a webshop isn’t that difficult, but setting it up properly and scalable is a real challenge. Since we manage over 100 webshops for garden centres, florists and suppliers to the industry we do have a good overview of what’s working and what isn’t. We share this valuable knowledge in the third part of our white paper to help the garden industry to keep up with competitors coming from other industries.”

Selling on Amazon

A whitepaper about e-commerce isn’t complete without a deeper look at the opportunities Amazon is offering. “Amazon is certainly an issue. It’s a huge competitor to the industry since it’s selling so many gardening products and, since 2018, also plants within the US. However, it’s also offering so many opportunities you can’t ignore them. We explain this in the whitepaper and give some guidance to make it easier to start and to find a way to be profitable, even after paying the commissions to Amazon.”
